Description

LANDULPH SX 46 SW 6/154 Limekiln at SX 422 648 II Limekiln. Probably late C18. Slatestone and Devon limestone rubble. Plan: Rectangular limekiln with arched opening to each side, built into the bank at the rear for top loading. Exterior: Each side has a round-arched splayed opening with a stoke-hole to the rear; at the left side there are courses of Devon limestone banding. The roof has a circular opening for loading the kiln; filled with earth. The limekiln is about 7 metres long and about 4 metres deep. The limekiln is by a small beach on the Tamar estuary; lime would have been brought by water transport.
