Description
This is a limekiln, probably built in the late 18th century. It is constructed from slatestone and Devon limestone rubble and has a rectangular shape with arched openings on each side. The kiln is built into the bank at the rear to allow for top loading. Each side features a round-arched splayed opening with a stoke-hole located at the rear. On the left side, there are courses of Devon limestone banding. The roof includes a circular opening for loading the kiln, which is currently filled with earth. The limekiln measures approximately 7 metres long and 4 metres deep. It is situated by a small beach on the Tamar estuary, where lime would have been transported by water.
