Description
The walls, piers, railings, and gates at the west entrance to Pentillie Castle date from the mid to late 19th century. They feature coursed stone walls, granite piers, and cast iron railings and gates. The entrance includes a pair of central square stone piers, approximately 2 metres high, with rectangular panels of vermiculation and pyramidal caps. The central cast iron gates have trefoil finials on the top and mid rails. There is a low coursed stone wall that sweeps forward on each side, about 10 metres long, with granite coping and topped by similar railings. The terminal piers are also made of coursed stone, square in plan, standing on a plinth with granite pyramidal caps, each around 2 metres high.
