Description

The Keeper's Cottage, along with the walls and fence to the front, is an estate cottage built around the 1840s and later extended in the 19th century. It is constructed from slatestone rubble, featuring granite lintels, sills, and corbels. The roof is made of scantle slate, with a half-hipped section to the south, a hipped section to the east of the rear addition, and gable ends to the west. A brick chimney is located at the rear gable, and there is a wide external rubble lateral stack in the middle of the south side. The cottage has an irregular T-shaped plan with three rooms and is designed in a simple traditional style, incorporating some Tudor-style details.

It is two storeys high with an irregular two-window facade on the south front. The side wall of the west wing is left exposed, and its half-hipped end projects to the right. On the ground floor, the left side features an original two-light wooden mullioned window with eight panes per light, topped by a large granite lintel supported by corbels. The right side has a wider three-light window that is similar in style and also has a matching lintel above. On the first floor, the left side has a twelve-pane casement with a moulded frame and a gabled half-dormer above it. The right side features an original two-light wooden mullioned window that matches the ground floor windows. The entrance is located on the right-hand side (east) wall. The interior has not been inspected.

In front, there is a low rubble wall topped with a rail and dowel fence, along with a similar gate. The wooden gateposts include an original moulded post with a roundel on the left. This cottage is one of five houses on the Trelissick Estate that share certain architectural details.
