4/21 The Coach House and Stable Block at Trelissick House

GV II

Coach house and stable block. Circa mid-late C19. Brick laid to English bond. Hipped scantle slate and dry Delabole slate roofs. U-shaped plan with central coach-house flanked by projecting wings for stables with brick wall between wings to front (west) enclosing courtyard. Outshut to rear of left (north) wing. Coach-house 2 storeys, otherwise single storey. Coach-house has symmetrical 2:1:2 bay front overlooking courtyard. Central bay broken forward with carriageway under cambered arch. Similar arches to lower doorways of flanking bays. Boarded doors. Square 12-pane hornless sashes to first floor with shallow arches over. Plinth, mid-floor string (to flanking bays) and cornice of 2 courses of diagonally-set bricks. The whole surmounted by clock with pyramidal roof and weathervane. Wings for stabling have doorways and windows overlooking courtyard. Shallow arches, except 2 doorways of south wing with basket arches, and a doorway with round-headed arch to left (north) wing. Interior not inspected.
