Description

Bosankos Cottage is a small house dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of painted slatestone rubble and cob, with wooden lintels. The roof is made of asbestos slate, though it was originally thatched, and there are brick chimneys at the gable ends. The cottage features a two-room central stair plan with a lean-to at the east end and stands two storeys tall. The symmetrical north front has three windows, mostly original 12-pane two-light casements with crown glass. The central doorway has a ledged door and is sheltered by an old open-gable-ended porch with stone side walls. There is a cast iron ogee eaves gutter. To the left is a later lean-to with a doorway to the right and a ledged door. The rear of the cottage remains unaltered since its construction, made of unpainted cob and featuring an original central 9-pane fixed light stair window. Inside, the cottage is virtually unaltered, retaining original floors and roof structure, ogee moulded ceiling beams, a straight flight stair, pine muntin and plank partitions, and three two-panel doors. Bosankos Cottage is an unusually complete example of a small two-room house that retains its original plan, with external wall surfaces that are also unaltered. It is situated overlooking King Harry Passage on the River Fal.
