Description

Quay Cottage is a small house dating from the 18th century, with an extension added around the mid-19th century. It features slatestone rubble walls and a scantle slate roof with gable ends. The building originally had a two-room plan but was extended in the 19th century to the left (south) by one room plus an outshut, and to the front (east) of the right-hand (north) end by a projecting wing, creating an L-shaped layout. The cottage is two storeys high.

The entrance front faces east and has a side wall from the original house in the middle, which includes an old 12-pane, 2-light casement window and a doorway almost adjoining it, leading to a 20th-century glazed porch. Above the door is a 4-pane window. The 19th-century extension, which is slightly recessed to the left, has a ground floor and first floor 12-pane sash window with cambered brick arches above. The gable end of the earlier 19th-century projecting wing to the right of the entrance features an original 3-light timber mullioned window on the ground floor with 8 panes per light, and a similar 2-light window above that rises above the eaves level. The projecting verge has exposed purlin ends. The interior is reported to have been largely renewed in the 20th century. Quay Cottage is situated overlooking King Harry Passage on the River Fal and is included for its group value.
