Description
The Water Tower is a water tower that has been converted into living accommodation. It dates from the early 19th century and was remodeled in the mid to late 19th century and again in the 1970s. The structure is built of slatestone rubble with brick eaves cornices and features two linked conical dry Delabole slate roofs, topped with a finial on the smaller roof and a weathervane on the main roof. The tower has a round plan with a round stair turret, which is likely a later addition, attached to the east side. It stands three storeys over a basement, plus an attic. The stone walls appear to have been raised, probably during the mid to late 19th century. There is an original pointed arched doorway on the southeast side next to the stair turret, and original slit window openings on the east side of the stair turret. The main tower's windows are enlargements or insertions from the 1970s, and apart from the slit window on the south side, all windows are sashes in Gothick style with intersecting glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected.
