Description

Crabadon Cottage is a small house, likely dating from the late 18th century. It was originally two cottages. The walls are of painted slate stone rubble, with rendering to the rear and slate hanging to the left, or west, end, including a section on the first floor of the front. The roof is of asbestos slate with gabled ends, and features large, projecting gable end stacks with slate weatherings to the tapered tops. One stack is slate-hung.

The original plan was for a pair of attached cottages, each with one room and heated by gable end stacks. A pair of entrances were originally at the centre of the front, presumably leading to lobbies and stairs against the party wall. The cottages have been converted into a single dwelling, and the left-hand doorway has been blocked.

The south front has a symmetrical three-window arrangement, disrupted only by the blocked doorway to the left of centre. It contains 19th-century two-light casement windows with glazing bars. The first-floor windows have 20th-century replacement casement frames without glazing bars; there is also a single-light centre window with a 20th-century top-hung casement. All windows are in original openings and have slate sills, except for the ground-floor right-hand window, which has a concrete sill. A doorway to the right of centre has a glazed plank door and a 20th-century glazed porch. The rear elevation is largely unaltered and has a single small ground-floor window to the left of centre. A single-storey outbuilding with a corrugated iron gable ended roof is attached to the right-hand end. The interior remains uninspected.
