Description
South Hill is a small house, likely dating to the early 18th century and possibly originally two cottages. It is constructed of slate rubble walls with a thatched roof, gabled to the left and hipped to the right. An axial stone rubble stack is located to the right of centre. The house currently comprises three rooms, with no evidence of a central passage. The two rooms to the right are heated by back-to-back fireplaces, while the room to the left is unheated. A 19th-century outshut has been added to the rear. It is believed that the house may have been converted to two cottages in the 19th century. The front facade is asymmetrical, featuring a three-window arrangement with early 20th-century two-light casement windows with small panes, set beneath flat stone arches. A 20th-century plank door is located centrally, and a French window is present to the right of centre. A 19th-century outshut extends along the rear wall. Inside, the fireplaces each have high, plain wooden lintels and a clom oven. The feet of roof trusses are not visible in the first-floor rooms.
