Description

Lancallan Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1681, with alterations and additions from the 18th century and mid-19th century, along with some 20th-century changes. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble and some brick, topped with a hipped slate roof featuring ridge tiles. The building has a double depth plan, with the front range containing principal rooms on the left and right sides, and a central entrance. The rear left includes a late 17th-century wing, which has an unheated dairy at the back. The kitchen is located at the rear right and is heated by a lateral stack with a curved oven at its base.

The exterior of the farmhouse is two storeys high and features a symmetrical three-window front. All windows are 19th-century 16-pane sashes with cambered arches. The central entrance has a 19th-century panelled and glazed door with an overlight, set within a 20th-century glazed porch. The right end of the front range is blind. On the right side at ground floor, there is a 19th-century 16-pane sash with a cambered arch and a blocked doorway; at first floor, there is a 19th-century 2-light 3-pane casement and a 20th-century 2-light casement. The right end also has a single-storey stone rubble lean-to with a 19th-century four-panelled door. On the left end of the front range, there is a 19th-century 12-pane sash at ground floor and a 16-pane sash at first floor, both with cambered brick arches. At the rear, the left lean-to has a 20th-century 2-light window. The rear lateral stack features a rendered shaft and a curved oven at the base, with a 20th-century window at the centre of the first floor. The cross wing projects to the right, with a gable end; at ground floor, there is a 2-light casement with iron stanchions and a timber lintel with mouldings and step stops. At first floor, there is a 19th-century 3-light 8-pane casement with a similar moulded timber lintel and step stops.

The interior was not fully accessible during the survey in December 1987. In the rear left dairy, there is a slate floor and 18th-century moulded ceiling beams, along with late shelves and wooden suspended shelves. The wing has been partitioned, creating a small room in the centre, which features an early 18th-century two-panelled door. The rear lateral fireplace has been rebuilt in the 20th century.
