Description

Wodd-a-Cott is a house dating from the 17th century or early 18th century. It is constructed from rendered and painted stone rubble and cob, topped with an asbestos slate roof that has a hipped end on the left and a gable end on the right. There is a rag slate roof on the outshut at the rear. The house features a projecting stone rubble end stack on the right and a brick chimney on the axial stack located to the right of the center.

The original layout of the house is uncertain, but it has been divided into two cottages and later reverted back to a single dwelling. It is believed that the house was originally designed with a three-room plan and a cross or through passage, built down a slope. The unheated lower end is on the left, with the entrance positioned to the left of center. The hall, which is heated by the axial stack in the higher cross wall, leads to an inner room on the right that is heated by the end stack. When divided, the left-hand cottage occupied the lower end, passage, and hall, while the right-hand cottage contained the inner room. There is a 19th-century service outshut extension across the rear.

The exterior of the house is two storeys high with an asymmetrical three-window front. There is a 20th-century door to the left of center, accompanied by a 20th-century porch to the left and a 20th-century window to the right, with a likely inserted door beyond. The far right features a casement window lighting the inner room. On the first floor, there is a late 19th-century two-light casement window to the left, a two-light casement window with removed glazing bars in the center, and a 19th-century horizontal sliding sash window to the right. The interior is not accessible.
