Description
Langdon Cottage is a cottage dating from the early 18th century, with extensions made in the 19th century, 1970s, and 1980s. It is constructed of painted and rendered stone rubble and cob, topped with a thatched roof featuring hipped ends. There is also a thatched roof over a rear 20th-century wing with a gable end.
The layout consists of a two-room single depth plan, with a small unheated room on the left and an entrance to the left of center that leads directly into a large hall-kitchen on the right, which is heated by an end stack. A 19th-century outshut was added to the rear right, which was remodeled when a one-room plan extension was added in a wing to the rear right in the 1970s. This rear wing was further extended with another one-room plan extension in the 1980s, creating an overall 'L' shaped plan.
The exterior features two storeys and an asymmetrical two-window front. The entrance is located to the left of center and includes a 20th-century glazed porch. To the right is a 19th-century window, while the first floor has a 4-pane 19th-century casement and a 19th-century 2-light casement.
Inside, internal partitions have been removed, revealing 18th-century bowtell moulded floor joists and a roughly chamfered timber lintel above the fireplace.
