Description

Shepherd's Cottage is a house built in the mid-19th century, incorporating materials from the mid-17th century, with few later alterations. It is constructed of slatestone rubble, partly slate-hung, with granite dressings and slatestone quoins. The slate roof features ridge tiles and gable ends, along with gable end stacks that have rubble shafts.

The house has a two-room plan with a central porch entrance. It is two storeys high and has a symmetrical two-window front with a central two-storey porch. The gabled porch features a wide, four-centred arched granite doorway from the mid-17th century, complete with roll mouldings and recessed spandrels that have carved leaves. The inner door is plain. On the first floor, there is a 17th-century three-light granite casement window with chamfered mullions and a drip mould. At the ground floor, there are three-light, three-pane casement windows on both the left and right sides, each with greenstone heads, and similar casements on the first floor. The left and right sides of the cottage are blind. The rear is slate-hung and has a three-light casement window on the ground floor to the left, featuring L hinges, along with a single-storey 20th-century addition that includes a door. The interior has not been inspected.
