Description
This is a lime kiln located east of Kilna Quay, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed from slatestone rubble with limestone quoins and brick dressings around the arches. The kiln has a rectangular plan, measuring approximately 24 metres by 8 metres, and is built into the bank at the rear for top loading.
The front features two tall round arches that provide access to two vaulted chambers, each containing a kiln on the right and left sides. The right end of the structure has a lower stone arch that also leads to a vault for an additional kiln, which is a later addition. The main pair of kilns is flanked by limestone quoins, while the right addition has a curved end wall. Between the two front arches, the footings are made of limestone, creating the appearance of a plinth. The left side of the kiln also includes an arched entrance to another kiln.
