Description
Tideford Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, likely built in the mid 17th century and remodeled around the mid 18th century, with alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of rubble, with the front rendered and lined out. It has an asbestos slate roof featuring gable ends and gable end stacks with brick shafts.
The layout consists of a three-room plan: one room on the left, a passage, and two rooms on the right. The end room on the right is at a lower roof level and may have originally been unheated. In the 18th century, a staircase was added at the rear of the passage, leading to rooms on both sides. There is a rear outshut.
The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical four-window arrangement. A 20th-century door leads to the passage, topped by a hipped slate hood supported by rough granite piers. There are 15-pane sash windows to the right and left, and three 16-pane sash windows on the first floor, all dating from the 19th century. The right side features slatestone rubble, with a four-pane light at ground floor and a small 20th-century light above. The left side has an external stack and is slate-hung from ground floor level.
The rear includes a two-storey outshut with a two-light louvred window at ground floor and a 20th-century light at first floor on the left side. The end room to the right has a single-storey outshut with three 20th-century casements and glazed doors. The rear of the two rooms on the left and the passage features a two-storey outshut that contains a dairy at the rear left.
From the rear, there is an off-centre 20th-century door with a porch, a two-light 19th-century casement with L hinges to the right, and a two-light casement with a wooden ovolo-moulded frame and mullion. The first floor has a 20th-century casement, while to the left of the door, there is a two-light 20th-century casement and a two-light 19th-century casement with L hinges, along with a smaller 19th-century two-light casement at first floor.
The interior was not accessible during the survey in August 1986, but it is noted that the room to the right of the passage has a framed ceiling.
