Description
This is a lime kiln located north of Kilna Quay, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed from slatestone rubble and has a roughly square plan. The kiln is built into the bank at the rear for top loading, with the right side also integrated into the bank. It measures approximately 20 metres by 8 metres and contains two circular kilns.
There is a round arch on the left side of the front that leads to a vaulted interior, featuring a stoke hole at the rear and a circular kiln that is open to the roof, with two additional chambers beyond. The right side has a similar round arch that leads to the rear kiln. The structure was not fully accessible during the survey conducted in August 1986.
