Description

Tideford House is a vicarage, now a house in multiple occupation, built in 1844 with few later alterations, possibly designed by Wightwick. The building is constructed of slatestone rubble with a painted entrance front that is partly rendered. It features a slate roof with gable ends and ridge tiles, deep eaves, and both gable end and axial stacks.

The plan includes an entrance leading to a hallway, with two rooms on the left side. The principal rooms face the garden on the right side, and there is a wing at the rear right. The house is designed in the Tudor Gothic style and stands two storeys tall. The entrance front has three bays on the left and a gable on the right. The ground floor has two 2-light casement windows, while the first floor has two 2-light casements and one single casement, all with hood moulds.

There is a gabled porch made of coursed greenstone rubble featuring a 4-centred arched doorway with a limestone hood mould, leading to an inner 4-centred arched panelled and glazed door. The right gable has an external stack with set-offs. The right side of the house is rendered, with one bay on the left and a slightly advanced gable end on the right. The left bay has a triple 4-pane sash window with a toplight and hood mould on the ground floor, and a paired sash window with a hood mould on the first floor. The right bay features a canted bay on the ground floor with 4-pane sashes and a string course, topped with a hipped roof; there is a paired sash with a hood mould on the first floor and a single light in the attic.

The left side has a two-span roof over the front and rear ranges, with a 20th-century porch and window at ground floor to the right, a 4-pane sash in the attic, and a 24-pane sash serving as a stair light in the front range. The rear of the house has four paired sash windows with hood moulds set in greenstone surrounds with splayed heads, along with two cellar windows featuring segmental heads. The interior has not been inspected.
