Description
Furze Park Lodge consists of a pair of attached lodges, originally believed to have been built for gamekeepers on the Port Eliot estate. These mid-19th century structures have undergone some late alterations. They are constructed from slatestone rubble with limestone dressings and feature a slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends that have raised coped verges.
The lodges are designed in an asymmetrical Gothic style, with each having a two-room layout arranged in an L shape, with No. 1 positioned at the front and No. 2 at the rear. The exterior of No. 1 is two storeys high and includes a gabled porch on the left side, which has a four-centred arched limestone doorway with a hood mould. To the left of the doorway is a two-pane light with a hood mould. The right side of the ground floor features a two-light casement window with a hood mould. On the first floor, there are two gabled dormers, each containing a two-light limestone casement with a hood mould. Attached to the right is a single-storey 20th-century addition. The left gable end has a canted bay at ground level with a cornice, featuring a two-light casement window at the front and single lights on the sides, with 20th-century glazing. The first floor has a three-light casement window with a hood mould.
No. 2, located to the rear left, is also two storeys tall and has a gabled porch with a similar doorway and a 20th-century door. There is a small 20th-century addition to the left of the porch. The ground floor on the left side includes a square bay with a three-light casement and a cornice, while the first floor features a gabled dormer with a two-light casement and a hood mould. The rear gable end of No. 2 has an external stack.
On the right side, the gable end of No. 1 has two two-light casement windows with hood moulds on the first floor. No. 2 has a central recessed door with a four-centred arch and hood mould, flanked by two-light casement windows with hood moulds on both sides. There are also similar two-light casements in gabled dormers on the first floor, to the right and left. The rear serves as the front entrance for No. 2. The interior has not been inspected.
