Description
Western Cottage is a house dating from the mid-19th century, with few later alterations. It is constructed of slatestone rubble, with the left side hung with asbestos slate and features greenstone dressings. The roof is made of asbestos slate, with gable ends and rendered gable end stacks. The layout consists of a two-room plan with a central entrance leading to a stair hall, with principal rooms located to the front left and right, and an integral rear service wing of one-room plan to the left.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window range. All windows are 19th-century 16-pane sashes with splayed greenstone heads. There is a central gabled porch that is glazed, featuring a half-glazed outer door and a panelled and glazed inner door. The left side is asbestos slate-hung, while the right side is in rubble. The rear includes a two-storey service wing with a gable end stack, and the inner side has a 16-pane sash window at ground floor level. There is also a two-storey rendered addition set at an angle to the main range, which has a plain door and a 4-pane sash window at ground floor, along with a 20th-century window at first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
