Description

Pear Tree Court is a house dating from around the mid-19th century, constructed from local slate and metamorphic stone rubble, topped with an asbestos slate roof featuring gabled ends and bracketed eaves. The left-hand gable end has asbestos slate hung on the first floor and attic. The building has a double depth plan with the entrance on the left end leading to a stair hall at the rear left. The two main front rooms have been combined into one and are separated from the smaller rear service rooms on the right by an axial passage. Heating is provided by gable end stacks. There is a single-storey wing set back on the right end.

The exterior consists of two storeys and an attic, with all windows located in the gable ends. The symmetrical two-bay front features pointed arch window openings with voussoirs, and 2-light casements with 8 panes per light and top lights containing gothic pointed panes. The left gable end has a doorway to the left of centre, featuring a pointed arch fanlight with intersecting glazing bars and a 20th-century panelled door, along with a 20th-century glazed porch with a tent-shaped slate roof. The single-storey wing on the right has three windows and a doorway, with windows featuring pointed brick arches and 12-pane single-light casements with intersecting glazing bars in the top lights. The doorway on the right has a similar fanlight above a glazed door in a pointed arch opening.

Inside, there is an open well staircase with an open string and a moulded handrail that ramps up to column newels. A servants' stair at the rear of the opposite east end leads directly to the attic. Most of the original internal joinery has been replaced, and the two principal rooms at the front have been converted into one room.
