Description
Craggs South Cottage is a pair of attached houses built in the late 18th century to early 19th century, with some later alterations. The structure is made of slatestone rubble and features a slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends, as well as gable end stacks and an axial stack with brick shafts. The left end of the building is rendered.
The layout consists of two attached houses, with South Cottage on the left and Craggs on the right. Each house has a two-room plan with a central entrance. The inner rooms are heated from a shared axial stack, while the outer rooms are heated by gable end stacks. There are also rear service rooms.
The exterior is two storeys high, with each house featuring a central plain 20th-century door. To the right and left of the door are two-light casements with L hinges, each light containing eight panes. On the first floor, there are three similar two-light casements. All openings have cambered stone arches. The ground floor right window of Craggs has been replaced by a 19th-century 12-pane sash. The right side of the building has a straight joint leading to the rear service room, which includes a six-pane casement with L hinges at ground floor level, a half-glazed door, and a two-light 20th-century casement on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
