Description
Lanes End and The Retreat are a pair of attached houses built in the mid-19th century, with some later alterations. They are constructed from slatestone rubble and feature a slate roof with gable ends and ridge tiles, along with gable end stacks made of rubble and limestone quoins.
Each house has a two-room plan with a central entrance; Lanes End is on the left and The Retreat is on the right. The exterior of each house is two storeys high, with a plain central door that has stone voussoirs. On either side of the door, there are two-light casements, with the outer casements being larger. On the first floor, there is a small nine-pane light above the door and a two-light six-pane casement on the outer side. The ground floor features inner casements with eight panes each, which have L hinges, while the outer casements are later replacements. The interior has not been inspected.
