Description
No. 20 Fore Street is a town house with a later shop, dating from the 18th century and refronted in the mid-19th century. The building features stucco on studwork with quoin rustications on the upper floors and has a dry slate roof with moulded eaves. It has a deep plan and stands three storeys tall, with a two-window range. The original 16-pane sash windows are present on the first floor, with shorter horned copies above. All windows are adorned with pilasters, moulded hoods, and sills supported by brackets. The remains of a late 19th-century double shop front include a splayed central doorway, while the 20th-century additions consist of plate-glass windows and a fascia under a blind holder. To the right, there is the original doorway featuring pilasters, consoles, an 8-panel door with fielded panels, and a spoked fanlight. The interior has not been inspected.
