Description
No. 1 Upper Lemon Villas is a town house in a planned row, now used as an office. It dates from the early to mid-19th century and features stucco on masonry, with some stucco on studwork above the entrance. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys over a basement. The front is slightly curved and has a three-window range. It retains original 12-pane hornless sash windows, with stucco rustication at the basement level, a first-floor sill string, and a moulded eaves cornice with consoles between the bays. The doorway, located on the right, is set back under the first-floor bay and features consoles and an entablature with a moulded cornice. It has a panelled door with an overlight within a moulded doorcase. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. The property is flanked by closely spaced wrought-iron railings with fleur-de-lis finials and turned stanchions, which lead to broad granite steps at the entrance and a ramp down to the basement forecourt plinth.
