Description
27 Cambray Place is a villa, now used as offices, built around 1810 to 1830. It is constructed of brick with a stucco facade and has a slate roof. The building has a double depth plan with a central hallway.
The exterior features three storeys with a basement and three first-floor windows. There are bands at the first and second floors, along with a frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The central entrance has steps leading to a six-panel door flanked by pilaster strips, with side panels and a fanlight that has decorative glazing. The porch retains Ionic pilasters and a 20th-century hood. The ground floor includes outer tripartite windows with 1/1 sash windows set in shallow recesses, featuring fan ornament in round-arched tympana. Other windows are a mix of 1/1 and 2/2 sashes.
Inside, the villa retains original plasterwork and joinery, including a central open-well staircase with stick balusters and a wreathed handrail. There are embellished cornices with acanthus and ceiling friezes, fluted doorcases with fleurons at the corners, and cornices. The windows have panelled shutters.
Historically, the building is noted on Merrett's Map of 1834 and has a similar design to No. 26 Cambray Place.
