Description
Westminster House, originally built as a villa around 1810-1820, now serves as offices and features attached area railings. The building is constructed of ashlar over brick, now covered with stucco, and has a concealed roof with renewed brick end stacks. The wrought-iron area railings display an X-motif.
The exterior consists of two storeys above a basement and has three first-floor windows. Notable architectural details include a first-floor band, an eaves band, and a low parapet. Access is provided by steps leading to a central entrance featuring six fielded-panel double doors with a fanlight that has decorative glazing, all set within a distyle Ionic porch complete with an architrave, frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The ground floor showcases tripartite windows with a 6/6 sash between two 2/2 sashes, all set in shallow-arched recesses adorned with fan ornament in the tympana and aprons below. The first floor features 6/6 sash windows in plain reveals. The second floor has been removed.
The interior has been renewed on the ground floor, while other areas were not inspected. Historically, Cambray Place was designed as an avenue leading to Cambray House, which was once rented by the Duke of Wellington but has since been demolished and replaced by a mid-20th century block of flats. Westminster House shares a similar design with No. 27.
