Description

Walmer House, now used as offices, was built around 1820-1830 and features attached railings. The building is constructed of stucco over brick and has a parapeted Welsh slate roof, with the stacks not visible. It has a double depth plan with a central entrance hall facing Bath Street.

The exterior consists of three storeys with three first-floor windows, and a two-storey and basement section to the left with two first-floor windows. There are bands at the first and second floors, a crowning cornice, and a parapet. Most windows are blind, except for the entrance area which has a 6/6 sash window on the first floor and a 3/3 sash window on the second floor, all set in plain reveals with sills. The entrance features a Tuscan porch with columns and an entablature, leading to a panelled door set within a semicircular architrave. The two-storey block to the left has 6/6 sashes on the first floor above 1/1 sashes, while the basement has renewed 8/8 sashes.

On the return to Cambray Place, the building has three storeys with a symmetrical range of four windows. The bands and cornice continue from the Bath Street facade. The first floor has 6/6 sashes, the second floor has 3/3 sashes, the ground floor has later 1/1 horned sashes, and the basement has 6/6 sashes.

Inside, the building retains its shutters, embellished cornices, and tooled architraves with fleurons at the corners. The open-well staircase features stick balusters and a balustrade with a 'Cheltenham foot'.

The railings to the porch, basement stairs, and area have bulbous squared heads and urn finials. Walmer House is part of a terrace that includes Nos 28 and 29 Cambray Place.
