Description
Numbers 28 and 29 Cambray Place, Cheltenham, are a group of three terraced houses built around 1820 to 1830. They are constructed with stucco over brick, featuring limestone dressings, a parapeted Welsh slate roof, and rendered end stacks. The houses are double-depth, with service rooms located at the rear.
The exterior presents three storeys and six first-floor windows, three in each house. A raised first-floor sill band and plat band are prominent features. Number 29 has 1/1 sash windows, with bracketed cornices to the ground floor. A similar bracketed cornice sits above a recessed doorway containing a panelled door. Number 28 has 3/3 sash windows to the second floor, while the remaining windows are 6/6 sashes. A recessed doorway is positioned on the right side of Number 28's facade. The interior of the houses has not been inspected.
Original railings flank the steps leading to Number 28, and an embellished section of railings runs between the two houses. These railings incorporate stick balusters and embellished rods on both the ground and first floors. The houses appear on Merrett’s Map of 1834 and are part of a terrace that includes Walmer House on Bath Street.
