Description

Sita House (Number 1) and attached area railings and gates are two terraced houses, built around 1820 to 1850. They have been altered since their original construction and are now used as offices, shops, and flats. The exterior is stucco over brick, with a hidden roof, brick party-wall stacks, and wrought-iron railings and balconies.

The houses are four storeys high, with a basement, and have five windows on the first floor. The first and second floors have 6/6 sash windows, with the first floor windows being taller. The third floor and basement have 3/3 sash windows, and the ground floor has 1/1 sash windows. The left house (Number 1) has steps leading to a central porch with Doric pilasters, a dentil entablature, a blocking course, and copings, with a four-panel double door and fanlight. The right house has a right-hand entrance in a wide cambered arch, with steps to a six-panel door (now partly glazed) and a fanlight. The left return has three first-floor windows with similar fenestration, and a first-floor band. The interior was not inspected during the listing process.

The attached area railings and gates feature twist-head designs and embellished urns on the stanchions. The left return of the building faces Cambray Place and forms a continuous architectural unit with numbers 30, 31, and 32 Cambray Place.
