Description
Number 8 and the adjacent cottage at the rear of number 4 Cambray Place (number 4 not included) are two houses dating to around 1820. They are constructed of painted brick with stucco to the rear, topped by a slate mansard roof. The cottage on the left has two storeys with attics and three first-floor windows. The house to the right is three storeys high with three bays arranged as one bay and three, the right bay being a full-height, canted bay. Most windows are 6/6 sashes. The canted bay contains 6/6 sashes between 4/4 sashes. The second floor windows are 3/3 sashes, with the canted bay containing 3/3 sashes between 2/2 sashes. The first-floor windows on the right have flat arches formed of rubbed brick. All windows are flush and have sills. The attic windows are round-arched. The left house has a central entrance with a 6-panel door and fanlight. The right house has a left-hand entrance featuring a 6-panel door, partly glazed, with an overlight within a fluted surround. A low parapet is present, with copings also found on the gable end. A ridge stack is visible. The rear of the property retains 6/6 sashes. The interior was not inspected. A tent-roofed porch at the right incorporates scrolled uprights and openwork frieze, while a window box on the first floor of the bay features an X-motif.
