Description

This is a terrace of three town houses, built in the early to mid-19th century, located on Upper Lemon Villas, Truro. The houses are constructed of stucco over masonry, with hipped roofs. The roof is slate, with original, grouted scantle slate on No.4, stepping upwards to an asbestos slate roof on No.5. Stuccoed axial stacks are visible.

The houses are arranged with a double-depth plan within an irregular, planned terrace. The frontages are generally 8 windows wide. Original 12-pane hornless sash windows are present on the first floor, and on the ground floor of No.4. First-floor sill strings and a moulded eaves cornice with consoles are characteristic features. No.3 has stucco rustications to the basement and two late 19th-century ground-floor canted bay windows with horned sashes and moulded cornices. The doorways to Nos. 3 and 4 are slightly set back, with 20th-century doors and overlights within a moulded doorcase, with a console between. No.5 features a nearly symmetrical three-window front with a centrally positioned doorway, with a consoled hood over pilasters and reveals. It contains a six-panel door and a squat overlight, flanked by mid-19th-century canted bay windows with hornless sashes and cornices that are moulded and dentilated.

The interiors, where inspected, retain original carpentry, joinery details, and moulded plaster ceiling cornices. In front of No.3 are close-spaced wrought-iron railings with fleur-de-lis finials, turned stanchions, and a basement gate.
