Description
Nos 2 and 2A Upper Lemon Villas are townhouses built in the early to mid-19th century, situated in a planned row. They are constructed of stucco on masonry, featuring a hipped slate roof with projecting eaves and a central axial stuccoed stack. The buildings have a double-depth plan and rise two storeys above a basement, with a single-storey porch on the right side. The façade has a two-window range with original hornless sash windows that include glazing bars, except for a slightly later canted bay window on the first floor to the right. The basement has stucco rustications, and there is a first-floor sill string along with a moulded eaves cornice that has central and end consoles, which also extend to the return walls. The porch features a broken parapet that is slightly set back on consoles, with a doorway that is recessed within the porch. This doorway has a six-panel door and a small-paned overlight within a moulded doorcase, flanked by panels with a key pattern. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is likely to be of interest. The property is complemented by closely-spaced wrought-iron railings with fleur-de-lis finials and turned stanchions, which flank granite entrance steps and return over the forecourt plinth, including a gate to the basement.
