Description
Spa Villas is a pair of semi-detached houses built around 1830, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and 20th century. The houses are constructed of stuccoed brick and feature a slate hipped roof with boxed eaves and brick stacks. The main block is a double-depth design flanked by offset rear wings, each with an entrance porch on the projection of its wing.
The exterior of the main block is two storeys high, with a shallow attic storey and a basement, while the wings are also two storeys with a basement. The symmetrical three-bay front block has two single-storey canted bay windows on the ground floor, each with different details. The bay window on the right is stuccoed and features a crowning frieze band, a moulded cornice, and a solid parapet. The left bay window is made of ashlar and has a higher frieze band, a moulded cornice, and a pierced parapet. Between the bay windows, there is a blind recess. On the first floor, there is a large sash window on each side and a similar-sized blind recess in the center. The attic floor has a casement window on each side and another blind recess in the center.
On the side of No. 1, there is a blind window recess to the left and a sash window to the right on each floor, with glazing bars (3x4 panes on the ground floor and 3x2 panes on the attic floor). Further to the right, a flight of stone steps leads to a single-storey timber entrance porch with a decorative wrought-iron surround. The side of the inner porch features a semicircular arched sash window with glazing bars. In the rear wing, there are sash windows with glazing bars on the ground floor at the side and rear.
On the side of No. 2, there is a blind window recess to the right and a late 20th-century window to the left on each floor, with a single-storey entrance porch featuring a decorative wrought-iron surround on the left. The interior has not been inspected.
