Description
A pair of semi-detached houses dating from around 1830, with later 19th-century additions and alterations. The houses are constructed of stuccoed brick, painted cream, with slate roofs, shaped and coped gables, and painted stacks including a central stack on the party wall. The design is of a double-depth block with recessed offset wings to each side; the larger wing to number 6 was likely added in the late 19th century. A recessed porch is situated in the re-entrant angle on the side of number 5.
The main block is two storeys high with a basement and attic, and is symmetrical with a plinth, raised band at first-floor level and a coped parapet. On the ground floor are two casement windows, and on the first floor, two sash windows. In number 5, all windows have been renewed, with glazing bars (5x4 in the casements, 4x4 in the side-hung sashes). In number 6, there is a late 19th-century casement and sash window. All windows in the front of the main block are set within openings with projecting stone sills and decorative, bow-fronted wrought-iron window guards. Steps lead to the porch of number 5, which has decorative wrought-iron standards, a frieze and a metal canopy. The entrance doorway to the basement level of the larger wing to number 6 is close to the angle of the main block, and includes sidelight sashes, a sash window to the left, and a sash window on the first floor; all have central vertical glazing bars. The interior was not inspected.
