Description
A pair of semi-detached houses dating to circa 1835, located on Southgate Street in Gloucester. They were altered in later years. The houses are built of brick, with stucco finishes, and have a hipped slate roof and brick stacks. They are arranged as a double-depth block with side entrances and service wings to the rear.
The exterior features three storeys and cellars. The front of number 139 has ruled ashlar joints, while the front of number 141 is painted white. There is a stone plinth and a moulded cornice with a parapet above. Each house has a single sash window on each floor, with glazing bars arranged in a 3x4 pane pattern (with some later renewal on the first and second floors of number 141, and partial renewal on the third floor where they originally comprised 3x3 panes). The sashes are set in openings with projecting stone sills. Decorative, bow-fronted, wrought-iron window guards are present on the first-floor sashes of both houses. The interior of the properties was not inspected during the listing process.
