Description

Numbers 9 and 11 are a pair of mid-19th century terraced houses located on Spa Road in Gloucester. They are constructed of stucco on brick with slate roofs and a brick stack. The houses are mirror images of each other, featuring a double-depth block with short wings at the rear.

The exterior rises three storeys with basements that have front areas and attics. The ground floor displays banded rustication, while the first and second floors have moulded string courses at the sill levels and a crowning cornice with a frieze band and coped parapet. Each house has two entrance doorways in the centre, approached by flights of stone steps leading from the areas. Each doorway features a transom light and a six-panel door that is recessed. Flanking each doorway are tripartite windows with sashes, where the central sash includes a vertical glazing bar. The door and window openings have slightly raised key blocks at the centre of their heads.

On the first floor, each house has two sash windows, and on the second floor, there are two shorter sash windows, with the side sashes being slightly wider. All upper-floor sashes have central vertical glazing bars and are set in openings with moulded architraves and raised key blocks in the heads. There are also two 20th-century flat-roofed dormers with casement lights.

The front areas are separated by coped parapet walls, which are topped with wrought-iron railings along the street front. The interior has not been inspected.
