Description
Numbers 42 and 43 Devonshire Place are a pair of early 19th-century terraced houses. They are built of stucco, with the roofline hidden by a blocking course. The houses are three storeys high, with a basement level, and each has three windows. Each elevation is designed as a full-height, full-width segmental bay. The ground floor is characterised by banded rustication, and a cornice runs above. Both entrances have flat arches with heavily altered overlights. A first-floor balcony, complete with cast-iron railings and brackets, is present on each elevation. The windows are flat-arched, featuring sashes of original design; the ground-floor windows of number 42 have 6 x 6 panes, while first-floor windows have 6 x 9 panes and second-floor windows have 6 x 6 panes. The central window on each second floor is blocked. All ground-floor and second-floor windows have projecting sills. Stack chimneys are located on the party walls. The interior has not been inspected. Railings are present on the staircase of number 43.
