Description
NUMBER 18 AND ATTACHED RAILINGS
This is a terraced house built around 1815. It is constructed of stucco and has a two-span roof, the material of which is hidden. The house is three storeys high, with a half basement. It has a single-window frontage. The ground floor features banded rustication and a segmental bay with tripartite, flat-arched sash windows of original design in the centre of the elevation. The roof of the bay acts as a balcony for the first floor, which is enclosed by cast-iron railings. A flat-arched French door, set within a shallow, round-arched recess, gives access to the balcony. Slim Tuscan pilasters flank the party and end walls, supporting a plain entablature with a blocking course above. The entry on the right return facade is round-arched, sheltered by a porch with thin Tuscan colonnettes and a plain entablature. The listing does not include the single-storey carriage house, dating from the late 19th century, located off the entrance courtyard. The interior has not been inspected. This property forms a group with numbers 15, 17-18, and 20-26.
