Description

Numbers 40, 41, and 41B Devonshire Place are a group of terraced houses dating from around 1825, likely designed by Amon Wilds and Charles Augustin Busby. They are constructed of stucco, with the roof hidden behind a parapet. The houses are three storeys high, with a basement, and each has two windows. Flat-arched entrances, surmounted by overlights and framed by fluted Tuscan pilasters with six-pointed stars in the capitals and entablature, have steps leading up to them. Numbers 40 and 41 feature full-height bays: No. 40 has a segmental bay on the ground floor and a canted bay above, while No. 41 has a segmental bay. The windows are flat-arched, with those at No. 41 retaining their original sash design. Fluted pilasters flank each bay, rising from the first through the second floors, although their capitals have been altered. A flat-arched window with a floating cornice and projecting sill is located above the entrance. Chimney stacks project between the party walls. The interior has not been inspected. Attached railings are present on the stairs and to the areas.
