Description
This lamp post is located in front of numbers 42 and 43 on the east side of Devonshire Place in Brighton. It was designed in the 1880s, possibly cast as late as 1930, and was converted to electric light in the late 19th century or early 20th century. The lamp post is made of cast iron and another metal. It features an octagonal, panelled base, a tapering octagonal shaft that matches the base, and a simple coved capital. There is a single maintenance arm and the design is Tudor in style. Above the shaft, the timing mechanism or clock box is marked with "BLEECO" and serves as a base for a swan-neck, tubular bracket, which is supported by a metal fillet shaped like a tendril. The lamp post has a shallow dish reflector.
