Description

Nos. 9 and 11 Broad Street are a pair of town houses, likely built around 1840, or possibly featuring a refronting of an earlier house. The structure is made of stucco over what is probably rubble, with a roof that is hidden behind a parapet adorned with a moulded cornice. The building has a double-depth plan and a deep central rear wing that is set at right angles. It stands three storeys tall and has a façade divided into a 1:2:1 bay arrangement.

At the center, there is a triangular moulded pediment above giant pilasters that feature Greek key patterns, framing the upper floors of the central bays. These central bays contain tripartite windows with hoods supported by consoles, while the side bays are accented with eared architraves. All windows retain their original hornless sashes with glazing bars. The ground floor showcases quoin strips and similar pilasters flanking a window to the left of center, although this area has been later remodelled.

On the right side of the ground floor, there is a large late 19th-century double shop front that slightly projects outward, featuring a moulded entablature that is partly obscured by a 20th-century fascia. This shop front includes slender turned mullions with carved bases and caps, as well as return lights with original ventilators leading to a splayed central doorway that has an original glazed door. To the left, there is a smaller, irregular 20th-century double shop front. The interior has not been inspected.
