Description

The Launceston War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1921. It is constructed from granite ashlar and designed in the style of a market cross or lantern, featuring an octagonal plan and Gothic style elements. The memorial is accessed by six steps leading to a plain ashlar plinth with weathered copings. Above this is a buttressed stage with inset inscribed panels, followed by an open stage that includes traceried lights, a moulded cornice, buttress finials, and radiating ribs that rise to a central cross.
