SO 3288 BISHOP'S CASTLE C.P. MARKET SQUARE (north- west side) 12/64 Nos. 16 and 18 -

GV II

Pair of houses, now 2 shops with flats. Circa 1800. Red brick (English bond) with C20 interlocking concrete-tile roof to left and corrugated asbestos roof to right. 3 storeys. Plinth, dentil brick eaves cornice, central ridge stack and semi-integral end stack to right. 4 bays to first and second floors; segmental-headed glazing bar sashes, replaced in 2 right-hand bays with C20 casements; ground floor glazing bar sash off-centre to right; complete early-C19 shop front to right with small- paned flat-bow shop window to right, 6 flush-panelled door to left (centre panels glazed) with flush-panelled reveals, pilastered surround, frieze, and moulded cornice; mid- to late-C19 shop front to left with 2 plate glass windows flanking central half-glazed door, pilastered surround, fascia and bracketed hood; half-glazed C20 door off-centre to left with flanking unfluted half columns and flat hood; central boarded passageway door with segmental head. Included because of complete early-C19 shop front, and for group value.
