Description

Old Bank House is a house that has been converted into flats. It dates from the mid- to late-18th century, with some alterations and an addition from the early-19th century. The building is constructed of red brick with a coursed limestone rubble plinth and features a hipped slate roof. It has a square plan and stands three storeys tall. The building has a plinth and deep eaves, with an integral stack at the front, offset to the right, a semi-integral end stack to the left, and another stack to the right at the rear.

The facade has three bays, with glazing bar sash windows that have gauged brick heads, except for the right-hand bay, which is blind. The central entrance features a 20th-century six-panelled door with an eight-part rectangular overlight, framed by a pilastered surround and consoles that support a triangular-pedimented hood.

To the north, there is a one-storey early-19th century addition made of red brick, which has deep eaves and a hipped slate roof. This addition includes a glazing bar sash window to the left and a 20th-century six-panelled door to the right, both with cement-rendered lintels.

Inside, there is an early- to mid-18th century dog-leg staircase that rises two storeys. It features an open string, shaped tread-ends, turned balusters (two per tread), a ramped moulded handrail, and fluted Corinthian columns as newel posts.
