Description

This is a mid- to late 18th-century house, later altered in the mid- to late 19th century, and now used as a shop and flats. The building is constructed of red brick with a plinth of coursed limestone rubble, with the south side pebble-dashed and a slate roof, hipped on the right. It is three storeys high, with a wooden dentil eaves cornice and a parapeted gable end to the rear right. Integral brick end stacks are located to the right and a brick ridge stack to the rear right. The front has three bays. It features glazing bar sashes with gauged brick heads, and two mid- to late-19th-century shop fronts with pilastered surrounds flank a 20th-century half-glazed door. The east front has three bays; two bays on the second floor are blind, and the centre of the first floor is also blind. Two ground floor bays to the left are blank. A curved-footed cruck, previously reported to be at the rear of the building, was not visible during a resurvey in July 1984.
