Description
Nos. 8 and 10 Church Street are two houses that have been converted into shops, dating from the early 19th century. They are constructed of Flemish bond brick and feature a stone slate roof. The building has three storeys and five bays.
In the left of the centre, there is a pair of 19th-century panelled doors framed by a wooden architrave, which includes a fluted frieze and cornice. To the right, there is a later 19th-century shop front with a wooden surround, a cased blind, and a shallow pedimented head. On the left, a 20th-century shop front is fully glazed with a recessed central door. Each upper floor has four windows, all with projecting stone sills and gauged-brick flat arches. The fourth and fifth bays on the second floor still have unequal 9-pane sashes, while the other windows have been altered to sashes and casements. The central bay features round-headed blind openings on each upper floor.
At the eaves, there is a stone dentil course, and plain brick stacks are located at the ends. The rear of the building has a half basement, resulting in a four-storey elevation, with original fenestration that includes three-light casements with glazing bars under segmental arches and tall central stair windows.
