Description

This stableblock and coach-house, now used as commercial premises, dates from the late 19th century. It features deeply coursed dressed sandstone and stone slate roofs, arranged in a U-shaped plan around a courtyard. The central block has five bays, with gabled wing ends that each contain one window on the first floor. The building has quoins and wood casements with mullions, transoms, and glazing bars. All gables are adorned with moulded kneelers and copings.

The central block has a prominent gabled bay that projects forward, featuring a large three-centred archway below a ledge that supports a part-glazed door on the first floor. Above this is an ashlar-framed plaque. The outer bays of the central block each have a window on both floors, and there is a central weathervane on the ridge louvre, with a chimney to the left.

The flanking wings each have five-bay facades. The left wing has a central gabled bay that projects forward, with a central door and a ledge for an upper door, along with an inserted garage door in the first two bays. The right wing has a central gabled bay that is flush, featuring a three-bay glazed canopy over two square-headed carriage entrances, with a door in each outer bay. There are five windows on the first floor, with the central window positioned higher.

The front of the courtyard is enclosed by a coped wall, which features central monolithic gate piers, each with a band, a domed cap, and a ball finial.
