Description
The stable block and coach range, forming a large C-shaped layout, dates from the 18th century and is situated at Llanrhaeadr Hall. The building is constructed of coursed, squared limestone blocks with a shallow-pitched, hipped slate roof. The main, south-facing facade is nearly symmetrical, consisting of a seven-bay central section with advanced and pedimented three-bay central and two-bay flanking wings. The central section features two large, depressed-arched coach entrances with boarded doors, above which are three segmentally-headed, two-light windows with plain glazing. A moulded pediment sits above, containing an open oculus. The flanking wings have blind first-floor windows and segmentally-headed outer entrances. The wing on the right retains its original boarded door and pegged frame, along with a narrower entrance featuring a segmentally-arched, two-pane overlight, also with original door and frame. The wing on the left has a modern door, with a two-light, plain-glazed window to its right. Centrally positioned on the roof is an octagonal open cupola of wood, with a lead roof and ball finial. The advanced wings have blind outer ground-floor windows, with a modern cross-window to the inner opening of the wing on the left and a boarded window to the wing on the right; all are segmentally headed. First-floor windows are two-light, with plain two-pane glazing on the left wing and vertical slatting on the right wing. The inner returns of the wings each have a further segmental entrance with a boarded door, alongside three sandstone blocks with iron tethering rings set at a height of approximately 1.7 metres. The north elevation has a large, near-centre entrance with a segmental arch and boarded double doors. To the far left is a large modern opening, with a segmentally-headed window to the right, featuring plain modern glazing. The first floor has five equally-spaced two-light windows, with two further boarded and framed openings on the right, the upper one with a cambered head.
A rubble bay, set back from the main elevation and flush with the rear, adjoins the stable block to the west. This section has a shallow catslide roof of corrugated iron, featuring a plain opening to the west and rear ventilators. Projecting from the angle between this bay and the left-hand advanced wing is a cart bay with a catslide slate roof and an open, partially boarded front. A small, modern lean-to with a corrugated iron roof is extruded between the cart bay and the main block.
