Description

The chest tomb at St Dyfnog's Church features a heavy tombslab supported by side piers and end panels, although the side panels have been removed. The tombslab is adorned with a raised strapwork border and includes a lengthy incised inscription that identifies it as belonging to John ap Robert of Porth, who died in 1642 at the age of 95. This inscription details sixteen generations of his lineage back to the king of Powys. Below the inscription, there is a raised shield motif with later incised initials HD. The ends of the tomb have paired arched niches, decorated with guilloche patterns on the central pier, while the sides and corners are embellished with applied fluted columns.
