Description
The Chest Tomb of Captain Wynn is a Grade II listed inscribed sandstone tomb-slab with a moulded edge. It is supported at the ends and in the centre of each side, although the main side panels have been removed. The ends feature relief-carved, winged angel heads and strapwork motifs on the east and west sides, with applied fluted columns at the corners. The central supports along the long sides also have a similar columnar design.
The tombstone bears the inscription: "Here lyeth ye body of cap Edward Wynne, son of Edward Wynne. He dyd in the defense of Denbigh Castle when besieged by Oliver Cromwell's army. Aslo the body of Owen Wynne of Kilken Esq., ye son of Edward Wynne married the Lady Mostyn relict of Sir Thomas Mostyn Bart. dyd [indistinct]."
